Big Ambitions FAQ

This Big Ambitions FAQ answers common questions on launching, crashes, taxes, loans, happiness, blueprints, system requirements, and the 1.0 changes such as the removal of negative interest.

How do I fix a black screen on Mac?

On Mac the game can launch to a black screen. Open Steam, go to the game's properties, and under General add -windowed to the Launch Options. Launch in windowed mode, then open Options and Graphics inside the game and switch back to fullscreen.

What are the system requirements?

Reported specifications are an Intel i5-4690 or equivalent CPU, a GTX 960 (4GB) or R9 380 (4GB) GPU, 8 GB of RAM, DirectX 12, and about 20 GB of storage for the minimum, with an i7-6700K, GTX 1070 (8GB) or RX 580 (8GB), and 16 GB RAM recommended. Integrated graphics are reported as very likely unable to run the game, and Windows 10 64-bit is the supported OS. Third-party trackers list the game as currently not playable on Steam Deck, so verify Deck support before relying on it.

How do taxes work?

A tax bill arrives every 60 days and must be paid within 20 days. The amount tends to rise as your empire grows. If unpaid, the IRS seizes assets, including vehicles, goods, furniture, and appliances, with interest, until the debt is covered. The 1.0 update added more deductions, a 10% late fee, partial payments, and an Econoview panel showing current owed tax and next year's estimate. See Taxes for detail.

Can I take a loan, and is there negative interest?

Loans are essential for growth and best taken early while you still show a surplus, because they become unavailable in a deficit. The 1.0 update reworked banking and, importantly, removed negative interest, so idle cash in the bank is no longer penalized as it was in some earlier versions. Loan qualification is tighter in 1.0, with higher income requirements and a minimum daily payment, but partial repayment is supported. More in Loans.

How do I recover a crashed save?

The main menu's Load game screen has a Show recover saves option holding automatic recovery saves made roughly every five minutes, kept at three copies by default. Load the most recent recovery save to continue after a crash.

How do I get unstuck or out of the map?

If you fall out of the map, call a Tow Truck from inside your vehicle. If that is not possible, open Options, go to Others, and use "Unstuck," then reload your save. For a broken vehicle at 0% health, tow it to a repair shop: freight trucks repair at the shop behind the truck store, others at repair shops beside gas stations in Hell's Kitchen and Murray Hill.

What difficulty settings exist?

Custom Game lets you adjust starting cash, tax rate, employee wages, product prices, and loan interest, and it has no tutorial or objectives. Story mode includes the tutorial and Uncle Fred's objective chain. Choose Custom when you want a tailored sandbox and Story when you want guided progression.

How does happiness work?

Happiness sits between money and hunger as a core need. You can raise it by playing games, watching TV, exercising, DJing, gambling, staying profitable, meeting Persona goals, sleeping on a park bench, or resting on a boat. Rain, homelessness, and time on the subway lower mood, while umbrellas, parks, TVs, and gym mats help recover it. The 1.0 update overhauled happiness with bonuses that fade over time.

Where is the casino?

The casino operates at Pier 4 on Fridays from 18:00 to 22:00, with a $5,000 ticket sold at the booth behind Bluestone Imports. It is a leisure activity for happiness rather than a business.

How do blueprint installations work?

Apply a blueprint through one of four installation firms matching your building type: Kingdom Office for offices, Kristian Bahood for retail and warehouse, Nugem Interiors for residential, and Stonegood Architecture for warehouse and factory. Payment is taken on the install day, not when ordered, and installing clears and sells existing furniture and stock, so empty the building first. See Blueprints.

How many languages are supported?

The game supports 21 languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese-Brazil, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Italian, though interface and subtitle support levels vary by language.

Is the game single-player?

Yes. Big Ambitions is a single-player experience with achievements, family sharing, Steam Workshop, and cloud saves. There is no competitive online mode, which is also why using single-player trainers carries no anti-cheat ban risk, though it can undermine the intended progression.
