Quick fix directory
Most issues in Big Ambitions fall into a handful of categories, and the official community FAQ documents a fix for each. The high-frequency cases are launch and black-screen problems, crashes and lost progress, falling out of the map, vehicle breakdowns, blueprint installation failures, and mods that will not load. The sections below walk through each.
Black screen on Mac launch
On Mac, the game can launch to a black screen. The documented fix is to open Steam, go to the game's properties, and under General add -windowed to the Launch Options. Launch the game in windowed mode, then go into Options and Graphics and switch back to fullscreen from inside the game. This avoids the black-screen state that appears when the game tries to start in fullscreen on some Mac configurations.
Crashes and recovering saves
If the game crashes, you rarely lose progress. The main menu's Load game screen includes a Show recover saves option that holds automatic recovery saves created roughly every five minutes, kept at three copies by default. Load the most recent recovery save to continue. Making a habit of normal manual saves on top of this gives you a second safety net.
Falling out of the map
If your character or vehicle ends up outside the playable area, the first option is to call a Tow Truck from inside the vehicle. If that is not possible, open Options, go to Others, and use the "Unstuck" option, then reload your save. This resets you to a valid position without losing meaningful progress.
Vehicle breakdowns and repairs
When a vehicle will not move, check its health first; at 0% health it must be towed to a repair shop. The freight truck is repaired at the shop behind the truck store, while other vehicles are repaired at the repair shops beside gas stations in Hell's Kitchen and Murray Hill. Keeping vehicles above 0% health avoids the tow-and-repair detour that disrupts deliveries.
Blueprint installation failures
Installing a blueprint requires visiting the correct installation firm for your building type. There are four such firms: Kingdom Office (offices), Kristian Bahood (retail and warehouse, also cinema and theater), Stonegood Architecture (warehouse and factory), and Nugem Interiors (residential). A blueprint install fails if you approach the wrong firm for the building type, and payment is taken on the install day itself rather than when you order, so make sure the balance is sufficient that day. Installing clears and sells the building's existing furniture and stock to make room, so empty the building first.
Mods not loading
Mods fail to load most often because of a build mismatch. Big Ambitions has shipped across several underlying builds, and a mod made for one loader or runtime will not work on another. Confirm your game's current build, remove any old loader (such as a leftover MelonLoader setup) before installing a BepInEx-based mod, and prefer the Steam Workshop version when available. Full detail is in Mods.
Upgrading old saves to 1.0
Players coming from Early Access can usually bring their saves forward. Saves from EA 0.9 and 0.10 can be loaded and upgraded directly through the Load & Upgrade option. Saves from EA 0.8 and earlier require an extra step: opt into the Steam Beta branch to roll the game back to 0.9, load and re-save there, then update to 1.0 and upgrade. This protects old empires from version incompatibility.
Recoloring furniture and decoration
If you want to change a furniture item's color, open Interior Design and right-click the item to recolor it; walls and floors can also be repainted. This is not a bug fix but a common "how do I" question that lands in support threads, and it helps when a store's look is hurting its customer rating.
When nothing else works
If a specific bug is not covered here, the official FAQ and forum are the authoritative sources, and the recovery-save system means a crash is rarely permanent. Report reproducible issues with your game version and build, since mod conflicts and outdated loaders account for the majority of "not working" reports after a major update like 1.0.
